Eugene Paul
With the Reggae explosion in the UK (1968-69) and the rise of record labels like Trojan or Pama Records, there could be usually found recordings from artists from the local scene coming from the afro-caribbean community.
Besides of well known names like Laurel Aitken, Dandy, Freddie Notes & The Rudies or Symarip, the vinyl diggers knows very well other names such as Pat Rhoden, Denzil Dennis, Errol English or Tito Simon, just to name a few.
Our man, Eugene Paul, comes from that music batch. Originally from Antigua, with a unique blend and soul infected style, recorded singles for Trojan, Torpedo and, over all, for Pama Records. He also took part in The Classics along with Denzil Dennis (as Milton Hamilton replacement) and we can also find him in the album ‘Man It's Reggae’ from Dave Smith & The Pylots.
Madrid - London 2014
Tuco Salamanca was looking for singers for some riddims he was producing at Golden Hen Studio (known before as Tucxone Records). He got a session with Eugene in London in October 2014. The recording was offered then to Liquidator Music for its release, but the project was delayed and delayed for years.
‘Where 's That Love?’ 2023
During the recording of Laurel Aitken's unfinished sessions, at Golden Hen studios, Eugene's song was constantly appearing in the musicians conversations during the recording session breaks.
Finally, Salamanca offered Toni Face to release that, nearly forgotten, project but with a new focus: recording again all the musical backing, but now with the Mighty Megatons and produced by Rudy King, now that both had been producing some of the last and greatest Liquidator releases like Laurel Aitken, George Dekker, Roy & Yvonne, Carrol Thompson and Keith Rowe.
This is the story of a song that has matured for 9 years for becoming now at its perfect mood. The master recipe has now been bottled and Liquidator offers it now on 7 inch format.
